The start-up Brelyon is developing screens that process light before it hits the eye. The result is an immersive experience.

One of the main reasons why virtual reality (VR) has not yet achieved a breakthrough is the bulky headsets. Brelyon, a start-up founded by MIT graduates, has now developed a new type of display technology that allows users to immerse themselves in virtual worlds without having to wear VR glasses.

Before it reaches the eyes, the light passes through a processing layer at Brelyon Displays. There, the image is recalculated, giving the impression that you are looking through a window into a virtual world. Depending on the viewing angle, the content appears on different levels. Neither separate rooms nor a special environment are required for this. The technology is already in use in areas such as flight simulators, gaming, defense and remote controls.
